Closure of the Pandemic Event Visa Subclass 408

The Albanese Labor Government has announced that the Subclass 408 – COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa will be closed to all applicants from February 2024.

From 02 September 2023, only existing Pandemic Event visa holders will be eligible to apply for this visa to extend their stay for 6 months. A visa application fee of $405 will also be introduced. Those who do not hold a Pandemic Event visa will no longer be eligible to apply for this visa.

From February 2024, the visa will be closed to all applicants.

People who currently hold a Pandemic Event visa and seek to apply for a different visa will need to meet the criteria for that visa and those without any options for other visa applications are expected to depart Australia prior to their visa expiring.
