Many visas in Australia require the applicant to undertake English language test to demonstrate their English language proficiency. One of the approved tests is IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
For many test takers, it can be sometimes difficult to obtain the required minimum score in all sections of the test: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. If they do not meet the minimum score on am IELTS test, they have to retake all 4 (four) sections. This may result in higher costs, and longer time.
From 14 December 2022, IELTS introduced their newest program: IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR). The OSR will allow test takers to just retake any one of the four skills or sections above, if they need to improve in just one area. This is now only available in IDP Melbourne, but IELTS has confirmed that it will be available at more test centres across Australia in early 2023.
The Department of Home Affairs has also confirmed that they will accept IELTS test result that include OSR. However, at time of writing, they will not accept it for applications of subclasses 476, 482, and 485 visas. Applicants for these visas will still need IELTS scores from a single sitting or attempt.
If you are unsure whether you should undertake IELTS OSR, or to plan better for your migration journey, please contact us and we will be glad to assist further.
