NSW Skilled Migration Program 2024-25 Updates

The NSW Skilled Migration Program for FY2024-25 brings significant updates aimed at streamlining the application process and providing new opportunities for skilled workers. Set to launch in September 2024, with invitations opening in October, the program will feature regular invitation rounds every 2-3 weeks until the quota is filled. Key changes include updates to the Subclass 491 visa, reintroduction of NSW Skills Lists, and new pathways for regional graduates. These changes reflect a stronger focus on skilled employment and regional opportunities, offering prospective migrants a clearer path to securing residency in New South Wales.

Skilled Migration Launch Timeline:

  • The program launches in September 2024.
  • Invitations open in October 2024.
  • Regular invitation rounds will be held every 2-3 weeks until the quota is met.

Subclass 491 – Pathway 1:

  • The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) applies at the time of application.
  • TSMIT concessions:
    • Type 1: 90% of TSMIT.
    • Type 2: Up to 10% of the non-monetary component.
  • Regional Work Requirement: Applies only to work in Regional NSW (the live condition has been removed).

NSW Skilled Migration Lists:

  • NSW Skills Lists will be reintroduced at the unit group level.
  • All occupations within a unit group will be prioritized and ranked.

Subclass 491 – Pathway 3:

  • This pathway is designed for recent graduates who studied in regional NSW in an eligible occupation.

Skilled Employment Definition:

  • NSW will adopt the Department of Home Affairs’ definition of skilled employment.
  • The Department’s policy will also be applied when assessing skilled employment.

Simplification:

  • All valid Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for NSW will be considered.
